Short answer: on a normal US sale with no advertising, Etsy takes about 10–13% of your total. If the sale came from an Offsite Ad, it can climb to 22–28%. The exact number depends on a handful of separate fees that stack together — and most sellers underestimate them because they only remember the 6.5% transaction fee.
Below is every fee Etsy charges in 2026, when each one hits, and a worked example on a $24.99 sale so you can see the real math.
Every 2026 Etsy fee, in one table
| Fee | 2026 amount (US) | When it applies |
|---|---|---|
| Listing fee | $0.20 per listing | When you publish a listing, and again every 4 months or each time it sells or you renew it. |
| Transaction fee | 6.5% of the order | On the item price plus any shipping and gift-wrap you charge the buyer. |
| Payment processing | 3% + $0.25 | Every order (US rate; UK is 4% + £0.20, Canada 3% + CAD $0.25). |
| Offsite Ads | 15% (or 12%) | Only when an Offsite Ad drives the sale. 15% if you've made under $10k on Etsy in 365 days, 12% if over. Capped at $100 per order. |
| Etsy Ads (onsite) | Your daily budget | Optional. You set a daily budget and pay per click on Etsy search. |
| Etsy Plus | $10 / month | Optional subscription (extra listing credits and shop tools). |
| Regulatory operating fee | Small % (some countries) | Applies in certain countries (e.g. UK) on the order total; not charged in the US. |
The three that hit every US sale are the listing fee, the transaction fee, and payment processing. Everything else is situational.
A real example: what a $24.99 sale actually pays you
Say you sell a digital or handmade item for $24.99 with free shipping, and it was not from an ad:
That's $2.82 in fees, or about 11.3% — before you subtract what the item cost you to make. Now watch what happens if that same sale came from an Offsite Ad at the 15% rate:
Total fees jump to $6.57, or about 26%. Same product, same price — the ad attribution nearly tripled Etsy's cut.

Offsite Ads are the fee sellers forget to build into their prices. Etsy advertises your listings on Google, Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest and Bing, and only charges you when one of those ads leads to a sale. The catch: the fee is 12–15% of the whole order, on top of the normal fees.
- Under $10,000 in Etsy sales over the last 365 days: the fee is 15%, and you can turn Offsite Ads off.
- $10,000 or more: the fee drops to 12%, but participation becomes mandatory.
- The fee is capped at $100 per attributed order, and you're never charged twice for the same order.
Whether to leave Offsite Ads on is a real decision — for some price points it's free money, for others it quietly erases your margin. We built a free Offsite Ads breakeven calculator that tells you which side of the line your shop is on.
How to price so the fees don't eat your profit
The mistake that sinks new shops is pricing from gut feel and forgetting the ~9.5% + $0.45 baseline that comes off every order. The fix is to price backwards from the profit you want:
That's exactly what our Etsy Pricing Calculator spreadsheet does: you enter your costs and target margin, and it returns the price to charge with the 2026 fees already accounted for. If you'd rather have the whole money side of your shop — pricing, an Offsite Ads advisor, bookkeeping and tax prep — in one file, that's the Etsy Seller Suite.
How to pay less to Etsy
- Charge shipping thoughtfully. The 6.5% transaction fee applies to shipping too, so "cheap item + high shipping" doesn't dodge fees — Etsy taxes the total.
- Know your Offsite Ads status. If you're under $10k a year, decide deliberately whether to keep it on. Over $10k, build the 12% into your prices because you can't opt out.
- Renew intentionally. Every renewal is another $0.20. Auto-renew is convenient, but check that slow-moving listings are actually worth re-listing.
- Build fees into the price, not your hopes. The single biggest lever is pricing that already includes the fee stack. That's a pricing habit, not a discount.

How much does Etsy take per sale in 2026?
About 10–13% of the total on a normal US sale (listing fee, 6.5% transaction, and 3% + $0.25 processing). If the sale is from an Offsite Ad, add 12–15%, for roughly 22–28% total.
What is the Etsy transaction fee in 2026?
6.5% of the order total — charged on the item price plus any shipping and gift-wrap you charge the buyer.
Are Etsy Offsite Ads mandatory?
Only if you've made $10,000 or more on Etsy in the last 365 days (at the lower 12% rate). Under $10,000, they're optional and the rate is 15% when a sale is attributed.
Does Etsy charge a monthly fee?
No — a standard Etsy shop has no required monthly fee. Etsy Plus ($10/month) is optional. Your unavoidable costs are per-listing and per-sale.
How do I calculate my real Etsy profit?
Subtract the listing fee, transaction fee, and payment processing from your sale price, then subtract what the item cost you. Or skip the math and use the free calculator.
